Edward Bawden was a successful and prolific illustrator and graphic designer. His wide ranging commissions included designs for posters, press advertisements (including a series for London Transport), book illustrations, ceramic decorations, wallpaper and textiles. He taught graphic design at the Royal College of Art (1930–40 and 1948–53). He was made a Royal Designer for Industry in 1948.
